Advertising encourage people to buy in quantity rather than promoting its quality. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

老题。广告出题种类两种,一种为大范围的(易写),如广告的好与坏;一种为考察细节的(难写),如来自竞争公司的广告对消费者的影响,而此次考试属于后者。所以大家要加强审题练习。

In an age of rampant advertising, customers' attention is always grabbed by beautiful images of ads on the billboards, TVs, newspapers and web-pages. As is known to all, advertising leads to fame while fame contributes to sales. Advertising can greatly boost the sales and encourage people to buy in quantity. However, with the overflow of ads, many companies seem to care more about the ads rather than the product itself. Quality problems begin to surface, and people begin to wonder whether advertising plays role in encouraging people to promote the product's quality. The way i see it ads do bring instant success for a product or brand, but when it comes to long-term sales and reputation, it is quality that really matters. Fame is something that's hard to build and restore while being easy to tarnish just like delicate fragile glass containers. With widely advertising, one product can rise to fame overnight, but to keep the reputation, the product has to be really good in quality. Otherwise, the bigger fame it has earned, the sooner the reputation can be ruined. In this sense quality is superior to any kind of ads, not to mention the high cost of advertising. Moreover, good quality and widespread ads together can make a brand survive and thrive in the sluggish economy. Many famous brands such as Safeguard and L'Oreal boast both in quality and long-term well-made ads. Ads circulate information and stimulate spending desires while quality makes ads more convincing and promotes sales. Combined together, these two can bring the best out of each other which in turn prolongs the life span of the product. To sum it up, both quantity and quality are vital for products. Companies should continue to invest in ads and in the meantime, put quality in the first place.
