Sometimes, we have to leave old friends to a strange city since the promotion of job or pursuit of education, then making new friends and having little opportunity to communicate with old friends due to the distance of heavy workload. So some people potentially believe that making new friends is more important than keeping old friends. But this opinion, I think, is still open to doubt. As a Chinese saying goes “old friends like old wine", the longer they know each other, the deeper and more meaningful their friendship is. Actually, old friends are always there to support each other, no matter what happens. Also, people living with old friends will never feel awkward and can be themselves because they don’t need to worry about their own performance. Even if keeping silence, old friends can also figure out mutual thinking from within. In addition, when we make mistakes, old friends will definitely point out our fault, and then give us appropriate suggestion to put us on the right track. In fact, there is nothing that can break the lasting friendship among old friends. However, old friends are of great importance in our daily life doesn’t mean that new friends are nothing. Actually, new friends can introduce us new ideas, expand our relationship network and help us experience the exotic culture. Sometimes, the significance of new friends cannot be overstated, especially when you live in a foreign country alone. When I first came to Chicago from Beijing, I felt so lonely and didn’t experience any sense of belonging since having a hard time to adapt to the new culture. Then, Harrison, the first friend I make in America, leads me to know the local culture, whose emergency help me quickly get through the “culture shock” and integrated into the local culture. Finally, Harrison and me become the close friend, as time files, we turn into old friends further. In conclusion, there is no definite limit between new friends and old friends. As long as we cherish our friendship, new friends will eventually became old friends!
