A variety of problems brought about by numerous cars such as environment pollution, depletion of natural resource, traffic jams and so on are presented to the world. So I believe that the number of cars will definitely reduce in the twenty years. To begin with, increasing environment pollution has posed a severe threat to human survivor, which is the internal motivation to propel people to decrease the use of cars. As we all know, exhaust fumes have become a major contributor to environmental problems. According to a recent survey, the amounts of carbon dioxide emitted by cars account for about 30% of the world's total and carbon dioxide is responsible for greenhouse effect. If global temperature continued to grow, sea level would certainly rise, then flood most coastal cities. In addition to global warm, people, actually, have been suffering from the inhalable particles produced by incomplete combustion of oil fuel, which can be proved by the increased number of lung cancer patients. Therefore, it is the peoples' concern about environment problems that contribute to the incline number of cars. Further, high price of oil and the policy limiting cars is external condition to decrease the number of cars. Since the rarity and depletion of fossil fuel, the price of oil will definitely higher, which means that consumers have to spend more money to enjoy the thrill of automobile. Also, in order to improve the quality of environment, some cities, like Beijing and Tianjin, have made a series of laws to limit people to buy cars and ban private cars in urban areas one work-day a week. Thus, these reasons will make people undesirable for cars. Finally, the development of modern public transit system makes it unnecessary for people to buy cars. The emergency of subway and high speed rail provide an alternative way to travel. Compared with cars, they are more convenient, safer, faster, and more comfortable. So, there is no reason to replace cars by public transit.
