Some people claim that university should raise professors' salary in order to improve the quality of education since they believe that professors are playing an increasing role in education. . But as far as I'm concerned, this opinion is still open to discuss Admittedly, increasing professors' salary has positive effect on improving the quality of education. On one hand, it is helpful to make professors concentrate better on education and research since they don't need to worry about the material living. On the other hand, high compensation will attract more elites to attend the university. The more excellent professors there are, the stronger competitive ability the university has. Thus, high salary is necessary to guarantee the quality of education. However, Professors' salary is just one factor that impacts the quality of education, there are also other factors, like library, athletic facilities, experimental equipment, scholarship and students are equally, even more important to affect the educational quality. Suppose a university raises the salary of their professors by 50%, the funds allocate to other fields such as library and sports facilities will relatively reduce due to the limited budget, thus making it impossible for students to achieve well-rounded development. Furthermore, university has to augment tuitions in order to pay for their professors and keep budget balance, which will definitely force some outstanding students from poor families to choose other alternative universities that can provide high scholarship to them. As we all know, students is a necessary part of a university, only having remarkable professors but lacking excellent students means nothing for a university, let alone to improve the quality of education. Therefore, blindly increasing professors’ salary can bring about undesirable results somehow. In summary, there is nothing wrong to raise professors' salary to enhance the quality of education. But as policy makers, it is their duty to consider all possible consequences and adjust measures to local conditions to effectively improve the quality of education.
