One of the most worrying trends, in modern society, appears to be the aggravation of environmental damaged by mass production of goods. What has resulted this and how this can be solved will be issued in this essay. An enormous amount of plastic waste is dumped irresponsibly into the environment every day. Plastic packages of productions are considered to be detrimental because of chemicals they contain. When it comes to refuse treatment, in poor districts, it is more likely to take easier measures, such as burning plastic rubbish, rendering toxic chemicals released, rather than recycling. Further, the surge of the consumption of raw materials ranging from woods, water to petrol, has destroyed natural landscapes and caused deforestation. Consequently, global warming and decline on biodiversity with adverse impacts are formed irreversibly. While goods have been made more durable by advanced technology, more people choose to purchase new commodities and discard old ones which are still usable. The rise of consumerism is one main reason driving consumers to buy more commodities with little consideration of their functionalities. The government ought to raise the consumption tax rate in order to appropriately reduce the purchasing power. Apart from this, the policy of encouraging producer to replace disposable containers with biodegradable alternatives should also be implemented. Many manufacturers are reluctant to introduce and adopt new techniques because of the extra investment which is seemingly unnecessary and unprofitable. But they would be willing to produce environmental-friendly containers if adequate subsidies would be provided. To summarize, environmental pollution partly arises from the fact of overconsumption and disposable wastes. Rarely will be this issue solved unless joint efforts be made by the government, manufacturers as well as consumers.
