Over a long period of time, arguments over the issue of the inclination of the government when they are sponsoring athletics or arts never seem to cease. Personally speaking, without a doubt, I'll be in favor of sponsoring the arts more. To begin with, there may be numerous reasons which can be classified into several categories, yet the one suspended at the top of the list, I would argue, is that the arts can directly change the way of people's way of life while athletics can not. During weekends, countless people tend to go to the gallery to refresh themselves. For one thing, they can relax and meanwhile improve their aesthetic level of making appreciation, if connoisseurs come to guide them. As a consequence, they can neglect all their troubles when they go back to work, so they can work much more efficiently, and this is one way to show the direct effect on people's way of life made by the arts. For another, if galleries charge some money for tickets, provided that it is not exaggeratedly expensive to reduce people's enthusiasm to get entrance, their earnings can be rather considerable, and such income can be donated to charities to improve the welfare system of the community in many aspects such as medicine, education and food security. And this is another reflection of the arts' influence. Further more, in contrast, honors made by the minority of the athletics can never change people's way of life straightly. To illustrate this point, a good exemplification coming to my mind is Sunyang, a famous Chinese swimmer who broke the world record in 2012 London Olympics. Obviously, his achievements are unprecedented, nevertheless, ironically, impacts along with his success are rather inconspicuous. Right after he got the championship, according to a survey revealed by Shanghai Daily, nearly 70 percent of students involved in the survey say they would not increase their time in exercising because of the incentive Sunyang has brought us, to say nothing of becoming an athletic. Therefore, it's not hard to find the fact that glories won by a few elites can only be a triumph to the nation, or to the government in a sense, but never the stimulus to encourage sports to gain their popularity among people, not to mention change people's life immediately. With all the evidences listed above, I assume, we can draw a conclusion that the government should spend more money to support the arts than athletics, as a result of the direct impact made by the arts on our life.
