There is not any hesitation to say that one should not give up on get a degree just because she is a little older. The whole knowledge we acquire is like a round circle, whose insight is what we have learned, while outside of the circle is the universal unknown things. As we are getting old, we can find that the scare of knowledge we do not know becomes larger and larger.
