The puritans are very pious and devout to God. The March four sisters love the life, respect the literature, and stress the self-dignity. They longing for braveness. To lighten the family economical burdens, Meg serves as a tutor; Josephine writes industriously; Beth assists her mother to do chores and takes care of other children who are poor and weak. Meg, giving up inheriting the legacy of Aunt March, married the poor Mr. Brook. Amy forgave the other girls’ bad manners and injustice. Although the life is industrious and thrift, they lead a very happy life finally. The March four sisters choose various ways of life and lead to different end-results, while all of them are the typical of hard working, pragmatism, family-oriented, pursuit of love and innovative spirits. Puritans are satisfied with what they posses. They cherish the world with gratitude thanks. Beth always assists her mother to do chores and even takes care of other children who are poor and weak. Unfortunately, Beth suffers the Scarlet Fever prematurely. Beth’s death conveys the puritan belief that a good person will go to heaven for the reward while a bad one will go to hell for the punishment. Just as the Little Women says “death could not break the household league that love made indissoluble”. Not only is she firmly concerned that only the kind-hearted people can go into the heaven, but also the family thinks that good-natured girl will not meet obstacles and difficulties since go to the heaven. She accepts all of things arranged by the fate desire-less without any complains. In puritans’ mind, no more than the austere life can render the happiness as well as satisfaction. Meg has nothing but a happy family. At the beginning, she dreamed to live a luxurious life. But experiencing a series of setbacks, she understands that a happy life is gained by industrious working instead of jewelries. Like other traditional women, Meg manages her family orderly. She “bustled about like a true Martha cumbered with many cares.” She regards the family as the most indispensable part in her life, considering the husband is the center. Meg is the typical product that woman is born for the family and husband while man belongs to the society and should go out for living. But later on, with the development of society, the mind has changed. “This is the sort of self from the restless fret and fever of the world, finding loyal lovers in the little sons and daughters who cling to them, undaunted by sorrow, poverty, or age; walking side by side, through fair and stormy weather, with a faithful friend, who is, in the true sense of the good old Saxon word, the‘houseband’” Based on that, Meg is no longer a housewife who runs the family alone. Nevertheless, she and her husband work together for the family completing smoothly. She firmly contains that “a woman’s happiest kingdom is home, her highest honor the art of ruling it not as a queen, but as a wife wife and mother”. Meg allows her husband to manage their son. Her husband also shows willingness and eagerness to engaging in the family affairs and children. Puritans are fully convinced that love exists everywhere. “A regular snow-maiden, with blue eyes, and yellow hair curling in her shoulders, pale and slender, and always carrying herself like a young lady mindful of her manners.” Amy donates to help those who are poor and weak. She does not give up all of things for family like traditional rules. Conversely, Amy continues to pursue the art. For Puritans, they could forgive almost every mistakes caused by accident. For instance, although Amy is unfairly treated by rich and evil girls, she tries to forgive them. Only hardworking can make it possible for people to live without sorrow and anxiety. Josephine achieves tremendous fulfillments through hardworking. She earns money by writing to support her family as well as keep financial independence. Her endeavors reflect that Puritans glorify the strive and struggle for the well-being via hard working.
