The Feeling of Reading the Chinese – English Translation Book The copyright belongs to Liu Huaying After reading the first six chapters, I know that translation is a bridge which connects different countries` language, culture, science etc. As for language, translation consists of two parts, one is intra-lingual translation, and the other part is inter-lingual translation. The former is to translate the same languages while the latter is to translate the different languages. For example, rendering ancient Chinese into modern Chinese belongs to intra-lingual translation, but rendering English into Chinese belongs to the inter-lingual translation. Translation also can be divided two parts by its active ways, they are interpretation and translation, but interpretation contains consecutive interpretation and simultaneous interpretation. In 1789, an English translator and scholar who is called George, had put up the three principles of translation. First, translation texts must obey the original texts. Second, in the premise of adapting the characteristics of language of original texts, translator should transplant the author`s spirits and writing styles into the translated texts. Third, translation texts should contain the characteristics of original texts and make it smoothly. Above all, translation texts must involve faithfulness, smoothness, and beauty. During the translation procedure, we must face some problems, which are what kind of texts we should translate directly and what kind of texts should be translated indirectly. These two approaches of translation are called literal translation, and free translation. We can use the way of a literal translation to translate the texts which are the original language and translated language can get the same effect after translating. However, if we want to render the ancient Chinese poets into English, the best way to do is to use free translation. English translation work is a high standards and high demand work. It calls for the translator`s responsibility, comprehensive knowledge and profound language command. Translators need to be familiar with different cultures and different minds between Chinese and English. From words to passages, there are various methods of translation, but whatever the approaches we use to translate the texts, we must obey the original languages. This is just my feeling of reading the first six chapters of this book.
