Should Private Car Owners Be Taxed For Pollution? Recently government agencies studied the possibility of enforcing pollution tax on private cars which issued a hot debate in society. Most owners of private cars opposed the tax, while others agreed with it for the sake of environmental protection. As far as I‘am considered, it is a good way to control the number of cars even to reduce pollution. Firstly, as we know that environment is the essence of economic development. We must protect environment to supply our development. Putting pollution tax on private cars not only can reduce the number of cars but also can decrease using of cars which reaches the goal of reducing pollution. Furthermore, this behaviour can promote sustainable development of national economy. Secondly, heavy traffic has been a serious problem with the development of urbanization and modernization over the years. Popularization of private cars is to blame for the the severe situation to great extend. On the one hand, reducing use of privates cars will relieve the pressure of road transportation. On the other hand,it will enhance the level of public transportation and perfect it. At the same time, this measure also contribute to improve consciousness of environmental protection and even healthy lifestyle. Because civilians may choose to go outside on foot or by bike. In conclusion, the advantages of collecting tax on private cars outweigh the disadvantages. Contradictory though it causes, it will be benefit for ours and even next generations. Only by it may we take a step towards sustainable development and better future.
