The Factors Affecting English Majors’ Oral Fluency and Related Teaching Strategies Cheng Fangfang (Class 1, 2010, Foreign Language School, Qingdao Agriculture University) Abstract: Oral fluency is especially important for English majors as they are the largest group to take jobs related to English. But the present condition of English major’s oral fluency is not satisfying. Therefore, it is important to investigate the factors affecting oral fluency and put forward efficient strategies to improve it. Through documentary analysis, the paper found 16 possible factors that may influent students’ oral fluency. Then through questionnaire survey, the paper found six main factors that affecting Chinese English majors’ oral fluency, such as the influence of mother tongue, the lack of English-speaking environment, culture difference, absence of input, personal affection factors, the insufficient knowledge input and the difficulty degree of teaching plan. After the analysis of these affecting factors, the paper gives some related teaching strategies. The purpose of this paper is to help English majors improve their English oral fluency in a better way. This paper aims to find better teaching methods which can contribute to English majors’ oral fluency. Key words: Oral fluency; English Majors; Affecting factors; Teaching strategies
