The dragon Boat Festival The dragon boat festival is one of our traditional festivals , which is held to celebrate on rural May 5th. It's set up to honor Qu Yuan, the respectable patriotic, who was died of jumping into Miluo River. On dragon boat festival , one of the customs is eating rice ball. Th food is wrapped by bamboo leaf and consists of rice,egg, mushroom and so on. In fact, the food came as a kind of protection. As Qu Yuan was immersed in the river, people were afraid fish may eat his body. With the thought of protecting him , they drew rice ball into water to fed fish. Asides rice ball, people also play dragon boat. While pushing the boat forward, people usually shout as loud as possible. This is another kind of protection. By doing this, fish swim away due to scare. The dragon boat festival means a lot. It is not only to memorize Qu Yuan, but also to pass down the patriotic spirit. However, gradually the traditional festivals have been replaced by western festival. The phenomenon sets up an alarm to catch our attention of protection our culture. We all are obligated to preserve our culture, including dragon boat festival.
