I think this view is unfounded, education isn't everything. Prison is necessary to deter crime in terms of punishment, education, prevention. To begin with, criminals are someone who has caused damages to others, they deserve punishments. So here has nothing to do with education. They must compensate at the price of their freedom. Second, education can be of various forms, prison is the best form regarding the environment and restrictions, from which criminals can reflect on themselves. On the contrary, education in other forms without restriction of freedom won't make them feel any differenent from other people, thus they won't regret what they did. Third, to change the criminals' mind need some time, during which necessary measures must be taken to prevent further damages caused by them, thus prion is the best choice to stop the crimes. Also, the prison may pose some warning to someone else who have the motivation to exercise crime but not yet. In this regard, prison will stop more crimes from happening. I think prison plays an indispensable role in terms of deterring crimes.
