College students spend most of their time studying, but other activities outside the class time also means a lot in terms of channeling pressure and building social networks. To begin with, there are always a heavy study load for college students to tackle, when they are managing to realize the value of high tuition fee, or to gain next year's scholarship. Students become quite exhausted and tired after a period of time, which will decrease their efficiency and judgement. So it's necessarily the right time for them to hang out and have some fun, after which they will resume their full potential to face their study better. It's also important to build a social network for one's future career during the college times. Hence having a lot of friends and related experiences is essential to one's broad career planing. That means to practice by taking part in community work, social activity, or a part-time job, which not only promote your skills of communication and organization, but also help you know yourself better and broaden your views. So, I think it's very practical for university to encourage students to taking part in all kinds of activities to ease the tension and to building their social networks.
