For primary education, there are always a lot of debates going on, among which whether to teach a wide range of subjects or to focus on a small number of subjects is a concern. This paper will focus on the pro and con, and give my own opinion on this issue. To begin with, a wide range of subjects will broad school children's horizon. Especially when these subjects are systematically organized and taught in a interdisplinary way. These subjects will enhance their ability to explore the unknown world, not only some theoretical knowledge be of no practical use. Students will take the initiatives to pursue their goal under the pragmatic practice of multidispline. They tend to be independent and innovative thinking, be responsible for their family and nation. But these students may not be acquaint with the theoretical knowledge, they may left behind during superior academic study. While, learning a small number of subjects will guarantee the students a strong basic of theoretical knowledge, which will be of great use to be successful in the secondary and tertiary study. But the potential risk will lie with the rejection of the students toward this boring curriculum. Also, students lack the communications and interaction with the society, they tend to be self-centered, and can't manage the issue beyond their study. To concluded, it's not how many subjects should be taught in class, but to empower students to be a well rounded people with strong theoretical basic. Thus, raise the requirement of the core subjects and at the same time encourage them to learn a wide range of subjects will be the better solution.
