Most students around me, after finishing their third year in university, have spent their last summer vocation in doing a variety of social activities instead of studing in libraries or going back home to relax. Social activities, recommended by both university and society, are quite popular among university students, some even spend their week days on them. Most students who are involved claim that they benefit a lot from social activities not only for their school study but also for their career after graduation. Those benefits are reflected in different aspects. First, knowledge learnt in school can be put into practise. Most students will choose major-related activities which means they can practise their abilities related to their occupation so that the knowledge learnt from books can transform into real value and thus participants can be motivated to studying more diligently. Second, social activity is a great opportunity to take a glance at the real society. Students can learn from the differences between class and society, making a good preparation psychologicolly and physically for their first steps into the world outside the school. Although those benefits are tempting, to exaggerate them can also have some side effects on students. Social activity, as a supplement of main course in class, should be done without taking up the time of main course. Summer vocation and weekends can be good choices if enough rest is guaranteed. In conclusion, social activity brings extraodinary merit for both study and career in condition that students have adequate studying time in class and enjoy enough relaxation.
