It has been said that libraries serves more as a vault for knowledge than just books. Many figures have study experience in library, for example, MaoZeDong and Alexander. In the past, the right to access library was a privilage owned by few nobles. Today, most of the libraries are open to public for free. However, Some people claim that modern technology, such as internet, may eventually replace the conventional ways for people to obtain information. it is necessary to question the meaning of establishing free libraries today. In stead of answing the question directly, we may take a look at following facts: Candle deos not extinct after lights are invented. Painting is not replaced by camera. Much as we all have TV in our home, we still go to the cinema to watch film. these inventions first come into being, we do believe that they will replace their old counterparts, but it turns out that there are countless caese that can prove our misjudgement. Because, most of inventions are so attractive in specific aspect that usually makes us neglect other important aspects. In terms of Library, there are several aspects that are unique to internet. Firstly, Library serves as a place where people are meant to be quite, which creates an atomsphere for us to study and think. Secondly, the books in the libraries are carefully classified, it is totally different to the adhoc information on internet. Thirdly, The lectures organized by libraries provide oppotunities for readers to meet those highly reputable scholars face to face. Last but not least, public library is a ideal place for young people to find their life partners for there are plenty of love stories written in books. As a matter of fact, internet and library are complementary in many aspects. They are mutually influenced. The content of library can be moved to internet and library can benefit from internet as well. It is not a waste of time for government to establish free libraries.
