We often hear the statement that if one guy commited crime, the chances for him to commit another crime is much higher than ordinary people. Many statisics on the rate of criminal reentering the prision also provide a strong support to this. In the light of this fact, someone argue that the prison has played a negtive role in reducing the crime rate, and meaning of establishing prision need to be questioned. I completely disagree with such opinion. Because, criminals are sometimes extreamly dangerous, some of them even have mental illness who are not able to distinguish the concept of right and wrong by themselves. It is hard to imagine the how terrible the situation would be, if they are at large. So prision can be a ideal solution for preventing them form being harm to orderly life of innocent people. On the contrary, some people point out that by putting criminals into prision is just a solution to part of the problem. The primary goal is to reduce the number of people who commits crime. Therefore, education is also needed. I support this standpoint, because, a great many of criminals are actually ignorant of law, if better education is given to them beforehand, the fact of crime can be prevented. Besides, during the time in prision, a criminal may also be guided to good through education. To conclude, prision is used to prevent those criminals who are dangerous from harming society again, while education can help reduce the number of criminals. Both of these two measures are indespensible for a healthy society.
