There is a trend that a decreasing number of students choosing science subjects in university in many countries. Meantime, other courses such as business and accounting are more popular. In this essay, I will display some reasons for the trend and then later mention the effects it comes with to our society. From my point of view, there are three main reasons pushing students turning away the science subjects. Firstly, it is more difficult to study science. Science has more demand in brain activities, especially logical and deductive abilities. Moreover, the students who graduate from science subjects will earn less than other majors like accounting. There is survey saying that science students earns approximately 10 percent than those studying accounting or business. Hence students are pushed to choose those majors because of salary. Last but not least, compared with others, science subjects are less likely to be applied in daily life. For instance, studying maths does not mean you could use function and limit in life. To the contrary, add and deduce may be enough in our life. However, accounting would be useful in our future life, like tax knowledge. In a word. The more demanding, salary and practicality push students away from science. Though it is our right and freedom to choose want we want, we can not neglect the importance of the science. It takes an important roles in our society. On one hand, many public infrastructure are based on science. For example, the power station is founded on chemistry and the inventions of our daily electrical apparatus are depended on engineers and scientists. On the other hand, some science subjects are the base of other art subjects. For instance, to be a good accountant, the guy should be good at maths and numbers. It is really hard for me to trust a accountant who is not good at maths. Therefore, less students choosing science could affect our quality of life and other walks of life. To conclude, science subjects could push students always as it's high level of brain activities, uncompetitive salary and less practical value. But those subjects exists in our daily life and are foundation for many courses, which could really affect the quality of life. Therefore, it is time for us to pick up science subjects again.
