Language is to daily life what foundation is to a skyscraper. Everyone says or listens to hundreds of words every day. Some citizens argue that this world should have one single international language while others assert that it would have negative effects on protecting cultural identities. In this essay, I will discuss the two views from the following aspects, and then put up my own opinion. 66 One single international language contains many superiorities. To begin with, it is conducive to solving local work or projects. One example can suffice to illustrate this point. Clearly, there is a growing tendency for English language to occupy a dominant place as an international language. Australia government provides international labours, who can not only speak English but also have related skills, numerous working visas for the sake of tackling the lack of labours every year. Another merit of a single international language is that it can help youngsters gain valuable and valuable and valued skills or knowledge. For instance, students who were born in developing countries can have an opportunity to study overseas in a better university with well-equipped facilities and well-known professors in order to widen our sight and gain study experience. 133 However, the other side of the coin voices its strong opposition, saying that it would be difficult to preserve cultural characteristics if there was a single international language. Apparently, many cultural heritages are associated with their own languages. If people spoke one single international language rather than their first languages, individuals could not understand the full meaning of the cultural relics what our ancestors wanted to express even though they were displayed in the measure. In my view, I would like to take a more balanced position. We would be well-advised to speak a single international language due to the benefits, not only tackling the lack of local labours also gaining precious experience. However, we should not, notwithstanding, overlook our cultural identities which could be recorded with international language so as to help descendents preserve cultural characteristics.
