We easily judge others at first glance. When someone comes into our sight, we usually make a definition of him or her, all by his or her outermost appearance, such as the clothes, colors, postures behaved, and so on. This impression always impacts our attitude and misleads us in the subsequent interaction with him or her, while a person usually behaves one thing but differs inside. But I don’t think that snap judgments can never be trusted. All the judgment should be made by objective hints, if so, even snap judgments might be credible enough for us. For example, doctors often meet some emergencies and they have to judge what the best method to save one’s life is. They are experienced and can judge the situation of a wounded by the injury’s location and degree, in order to offer the most efficient aid. Or when policemen are tracking a murderer, they also need to judge fast by some slight clues, to avoid the criminal’s escape. Firemen, who usually site themselves in a dangerous position in the fire ground, need more snap judgments to decide which way to go. A wrong decision might lead to their lost, as well as a slow one. In these cases, the snap judgments should be trusted, for they are verified by abundant experience. However, if conditions permit, judgments always should be made from all the factors, which can give a more credible result. When we decide to attend college, we are hoping to know everything about the campus, such as where it locate, how is its surroundings, what the curriculums are, or even how is the career prospection in future. These factors are needed to consider, and we couldn’t judge which college to choose in a snap or by gut. Considering the above two opposite kinds of judgments, I agree that, some of snap judgments should be trusted in some conditions, neither always nor never.
