When I was young, about in my teenage, a saying was popular among us students and our parents, which is said that parents are the best teachers for children. I had agreed with this consequence, however, I have changed my opinion on this topic. Parents should be their children’s teachers, but they sometimes don’t behave as good teachers. We have got some reports about parents who do behave badly when facing their children. A report was once on the internet, that a couple made their children steal money from others for them. It’s, of course, extremely bad to the children. The parents taught the children stealing, and that might lead their children a way to be thieves. When they grow up, once the habit of stealing has formed, they easily live on the money that shouldn’t belong to them. So according to those reports like this one, parents who behave badly could never teach their children well. Also, rare parents have ability and knowledge needed to teach their children well. Actually, parents seldom have learned educational psychology. Therefore, they usually don’t know what their children are thinking about, what the children’s emotion is like, whether they are worried or confident. The parents have to judge their children’s feelings by the way of themselves. Undoubtedly, there will be a lot of fallacies and misunderstandings, which usually make parents miss the best method to teach. What’s more, while their children are growing up, the misunderstanding will certainly get larger to become a big gap and then the difficulties of teaching must be increasing. If this occurs, the purpose of teaching might easily go to its opposite, leading to a backfire. In conclusion, I don’t agree with the statement that parents are the best teachers, although in some cases they really are, but not always.
