Are Dialects Just As Acceptable in Public Places? As we all know, dialects are part of Chinese culture which is diverse and fruitful. I believe that all of us are proud of our remakable culture, including dialects. However, due to the broad field of China, there haved produced all kinds of dialects sharing big differences with one another. There is no doubt that effective communication is of great importance for us today. It is thus that dialects are not acceptable in public places. In the first place, with the advance of communications in recent years, we have more opportunities than ever before to meet others for trading or developing other relationship. What we should do is mostly seize these oppotunities by means of effective communication in which language understood by everyone is of significant importance. Can dialects help us achive that? The answer is basically "no", unless you and your parterner use the same dialect. The differences between two dialects is usually huge, for example, in Shanghai dialect, "you" is spoken as "nong", while in Shanxi, it is spoken as "e". So, if we use dialects different from your counterpart's, we cannot start even a simple conversation.
