Finishing my work, I sit here in the office and try to write down my past few days in November about English learning. Considering what kind of tense the writing should use, I take it as a general writing from the outset of the subject. In far over ten years of my entire school career, I have ever tried many ways to improve my skills in this foreign language but nothing has changed due to my laziest man on the farm .It is easy to speak and write using my mother tongue ,while it is much more difficult to communicate fluently and accurately in English. I did spend a hard time on it in the pass few days .Here I sectioned what I learnt and felt depending on channels as following. E-books on Speech Learning I have been reading a new book on English learning .Not knowing the author I downloaded “How to speak and write correctly “, an e-book to my phone. The book interests me at first for its simple words and funny words. I read it and started copying sentences from its few chapters, than the whole stand-out chapter. Words unknown are underlined red violet, to be checked through an outstanding function of app We Chat. (I guess not many people know the translation function of We Chat).Mostly helpful sentence is; as for all purposes of ordinary conversation and communication, only about 2,000 different words are required. Every time I am about to lose my patience memorizing infinite words, I will review that sentence and keep on telling myself it’s so small a number compared with what is in the dictionaries. I acknowledged it was not pleasant at first reading such a book without any Chinese paraphrases. I learnt half of its index and I am going according to it, even though there are easily understanding grammar books written in Chinese. Another e-book is a textbook American Student: History of the Word. To call it a textbook, as American students do, makes it sound much more boring than it is. It is not merely a telling story to Childs book .It shows the way how the native English speakers think about all stuffs in the whole word. Not much about business English I can learn from it indeed, but it does help to understand native English cultures. The Economist I did not come to any textbooks on business English thus, I still know no more about general business English terms used in foreign trade. But magazines like The Economist also help my business English learning. Pick up some normal and useful phrases, common sayings, newly hit words, perfect sentences as well as some long complicated sentences. In order to read it without interruption, I spent all night being alone repeatedly reading the book I printed .Currently, it is still strikingly depressing my ambitious in English when I meet some realms of polity, social economy. I set a time schedule about reading. Three essays should be finished a day, and December 2nd counted to the fourth day. Words and phrases are accumulated slowly but constantly. There will be someday not long after I can be the master of speaking and writing correctly in a proper manner. There used to be a sentence that took my whole night working it out. It was placed on No country for young people, published on November 22nd, the print edition. It is Coen has calculated what various countries’ collective savings should be given their demographics. I went through its translation at first and than I made its elements apparently underlined in different color. But I fail to understand what element the phrase “their demographics” stand for. After some moments, I turned to friends for help. Nobody could ever explain it with its whole sentence translation. The next day, I checked through website and finally made it up. I should have known it, as for such a simple sentence. Until that time did I realize that I did not get a well preparation of what I was perusing. But learning does relay a positive attitude towards living to me. As for Times highly recommended, I tried to keep going through one news article at the beginning. I found what it published is much the same as The Economist. It was abandoned very soon. I wondered if I had spent too much time on reading .Then I made The VOA learning as a channel. The VOA I used to listen to some English songs like Somewhere over the Rainbow or songs from the Linkin Park. At one time I listen to special VOA for I could get each word clearly, Standard English at another. It was set 2 listening assignments a day. I listened again and again to get its meaning and sentence apparently flow up my mind till the tenth. Than I read the material for more details and also transcribed and summarized some parts. Another ten-time listening was supposed to go on after those detail works Materials are mostly about stories like One Thousand Dollars by O Henry. I gave up my habit on TVB shows at night. And I just concentrated on English learning. It seemingly got back to my senior school career. A VOA completes a day’s subject line-up. The Apps Most convenient way to be profound learning might be using apps. Here I found several interesting apps. The latest was named MY ECHO(译客传说). Varies languages were showed there. I had tried translation games and got some scores in return. Also, translations others did were there lined according to their accuracy and popularity. Articles about different pronunciation between American English and Britain English or something else interesting were updated everyday. Apps like Shanbei, You Dao, were broad consensus in memorizing words. But, I think knowing how to use and where to place is more crucial. What worries me most should be blamed to terms of foreign trade. Searching online, there are plenty of materials of terms. Unlike the one I learned at school, business English has a greater emphasis on trade. Economic jargon is everywhere and I just have depression figuring them out. Learning English is taking more and more my time. I am not compulsory learning it. I am blessed to have patiently eager and positive energy keeping learning while many graduates are having fun off work. Instead of playing and being lazy, figuring out what can do in my early adulthood to make a difference suit much better. All in all, it is stuffed with hard knocks to reach a given level for a lay man like me. And I am not giving in.
