When we live in a community, we always have several neighbors around our house or apartment. Although we have less communication with them than in the past our parents or grandparents did, we also can imagine how a good neighbor behaves. Some qualities are needed to be a good neighbor, and we will be very glad to see that. Being kindhearted and ready to help is always in the first place. A neighbor is usually the one who can give you a hand at first when you get into trouble. For example, you might get an acid stomachache in a deep night, while you are a single living in the house at that time. And for you, it seems quite hard to drive to the hospital for a cure. Then your neighbor comes to help you and take care of you. In this case, your neighbor has a quality of helping others. I think this is one of the characters of a good neighbor. Among us Chinese, there is an old saying that a relative far away never comes up to a neighbor nearby. This saying is telling the importance of a helpful neighbor, in other hand, it also tells us to be a good neighbor, being ready to help others is an important character too. Apart from that, a good neighbor should never be willing to interrupt into your life. There are too many neighbors that their curiosity is too much developed, and they want to know everything about you, even gossip that. That’s not what a good neighbor should do, because that will certainly interfere in our normal life. Therefore a good neighbor should not interfere too much about others, for example, he never teaches you how you should do the housework, or how you control your children. A well known TV program, Desperate Housewife, shows us those women try to help but interfere in others’ life. I think the way they behave is needed to change, for “Overdone is worse than undone”. In conclusion, the qualities of a good neighbor have many different meaning to different people. But as to me, being kindhearted and ready to help, as well as not interfering too much in others’ life, is the best character. A good neighbor is intelligent enough to balance these two characters, in order to offer help without to bother you.
