Are Dialects Just as Acceptable in Public Places? Nowadays, Chinese has been regarded as the most standard language in China and it has been wildly used in education, publication, science and cultural transmittion. And people are encouraged to use pu tong hua in public places and dialects should be forbidden . As far as I concerned, encouraging people to use the standard language does not mean dialects are unacceptable. My reasons are listed as follows: Firstly, Dialect is also an important cultural forms, it has been transmitted through generations. If it is not acceptable in public, it may disappear little by little. What's more, dialect represents the regional culture and we can find more historic clues. If dialects are not allowed to use in public places, people may find no confidence of their hometown. Secondly, according to the current situation of education in China, All not Chinese people can speak PuTongHua so that it will be difficult for them to communicate with others in public places. I think it is unfair for those who are living in the poor areas. Thirdly, If both Putonghua and dialects are allowed to use in public cities, It will not do harm to the purpose of reuniting languages. On the contrary, people will not only learn to speak Putong hua, They can also keep their dialects. And it will be natural for them to talk with their kins using dialects. Finally,I think dialects are invented with regional development, Only dialects can give some regional culture a best explanation for dialect it self is endowed with culture. All in all, I think it is not necessarily to forbidden public use of dialects since the advantages of keeping dialects in public conversation overweigh the disadvantages. It can be acceptable for us to speak dialects in public.
