This study aims to find out the differences of table manners of Chinese and British from perspective of intercultural communication. The study has the following objectives (1) to investigate the historical origin of Chinese and British table manners (2) to compare the differences of table manners of Chinese and British (3) to explore the cause of differences of table manners between Chinese and British. Table manners is the behavior that is considered correct while you are having a meal at a table with other people. It is the basis of social civilization. Around the world, people have different ideas about their table manners. However, with the development of economic globalization, communication among different countries is becoming more closely linked. Therefore it is of great essential for us to know more about table manners. On the one hand, It helps us avoid some unnecessary misunderstandings in cross-culture communication. On the other hand, we can learn from other culture and develop our traditional culture. In addition, China is known as” the nation of etiquettes”. In the west, Britain is also a country which attaches much importance to table manners. British is the representative of west culture while China is on behalf of east culture. Both of them form respective table manners during the long historical process. So it is significant for us to make a comparative study between China and Britain.
