Currently, regarding whether human being have made progess in all fields of the life, people can not reach a consensus yet. Some people hold the view that human race have achieved their goals, while other do not agree. In this essay, I intend to discuss both sides of this issue. Undoubtedly, huge breakthroughs in various areas of people' life have been created. Initially, the improvement in the human intelligence was significant over the past hundreds years. Compared with the society of one hundred years ago, the education of next generation attracts increasing public attention, resulting in the application of advanced teaching methods like multi-media teaching aids and internet used in long distance education, the continuously-perfected educational policy, and the highly-trainded and qualified educators. All of these changes are main contributors to the development of human intellectually. Also, more convenient transportation make people's life easier. One hundred years ago, our ancestors should not imagine such short time that a person spends on travelling to another place thousands miles away due to the invention of the speedy transport means such as aeroplane and subway. Additionally, telecommunication is another essential advance of modern society. Instead of writing letters to contact which took months to reach the recipients in the ancient time, the modern telecommunication technology like telephone and computer replaces this old-fashionable way, not only speeding up the pace of people's life but also boosting the globalization. Admittedly, there are still aspects of life needing further perfect. Firstly, environmental protection should be paid more emphasis by government and the public. As the socity industialized blindly at the early stage, some irreversible or reversible damage had been produced to the environment. Therefore, to leave a pleasant planet to our generations, protecting environment would not wait for any longer. Secondly, saving natural resources and exploring pollution-free energies should be involved in the development plan of a country. To conclude, during the past one hundred years, human was not without its progess. Nevertheless, these gains do not cover all the fields related to the development of society as a whole yet. Personally, I suggest authority should make and implement restrict rules and regulations to discipline the behavors of companies and individuals inducing the harms to our earth, the mass media should enhance the promotion of envrionmental protection to arise the public awareness, more funds should be redirected to the research on the exploration of the clean energies.
