It is universally acknowledged that the social and economic gaps between rich countries and poor countries are becoming wider and wider, which is harmful to safeguarding world peace and promoting common development. In order to narrow these gaps, rich countries often give financial aid, including providing capital donation, interest-free or low-interest loans and project assistance, to the developing countries. Granted, it is effective in the short term; however, it does not solve the poverty. As far as I am concerned, rich countries should give other types of help----involving transferring technology, establishing the fair trading order, and helping the poor countries train talents----to the poor countries rather than financial aid. Firstly, transferring technology is supposed to support and help developing countries to vitalize the economy and raise people’s living standards. There is a famous saying,” Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”, which means that teaching method to solve the problem is more significant. In most poor countries, the situation of low level of productivity has remained unchanged for years, for manufacturing industry is being challenged by poor innovation, excessive competition for low-end products, and insufficient core components and key technologies. Because of economizing research funding, advanced technologies introduced by countries in desperate need from industrialized ones eliminate backward production capacity, accelerate industrial upgrading, and manufacture high value-added products; consequently, transferring technology across borders not only enhances labor productivity but also increases the income of people in poverty-stricken area. Secondly, establishing the world fair trading order can provide beneficial external environment for those less developed areas. With the rising of international trade protectionism, current world trading order built and dominated by affluent nations, which chase respective interests maximized and are full of contradictions with one another, is unfair, resulting in increasing difficulties of exporting competitive products and the intensive poverty. To remove the negative influence of partial world commercial rules, wealthy countries should initiatively set up the new-style, impartial, and mutually beneficial trading order on a global scale by means of sponsoring a new round of multilateral trade negotiations, facilitating the liberalization of World Trade, and lowering the trade barriers to offer more market access opportunities. Free Trade Area of Asian-Pacific, for example, agreed by leaders of the 21 economic communities in recent Asian-Pacific Economy Conference which was held in Beijing from 5th to 11th , November, 2014, contributes to formation of favourable external environment for poor countries in Asian-Pacific Area and indicates APEC's will to advance regional integration. Finally, helping the poor countries cultivate professional and technical talents will lay a solid foundation for the development of poverty nations in the long term.”The wisest way to eliminate poverty is investing in people.”Ban Ki-moon remarked, the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations. It is really true. If the developed countries could selflessly dispatch experts in various fields to developing ones and adopt few restrictions on foreign students, more and more professional and technical talents who devote themselves to the development of motherland will appear eventually. All in all, rich countries should give other types of help to the poor countries rather than financial aid. The affluent countries and poor ones should jointly adopt practical measures to eliminate poverty in today’s world, because this not only accords with the long-side interest of all of economies but also is mankind’s diligent direction.
