In many countries women are not qualified and legislated to join the army. However, some people hold the view that women should legally became members of army, navy and air force. Do you agree or disagree? In ancient times, women were superstitiously thought to bring bad luck to the military, thus not allowed to go anywhere near the army. Nonetheless, today, a small number of women working in organizations affiliate to the armed forces, but some of them still mainly involved in the logistics or civilian work, which evokes quite a fierce debate. As far as I am concerned, the army or the navy is not suited for the fair sex. Firstly, the life in the army is too physically demanding, especially for female. Indeed, quite a number of their male peers can hardly cope perfectly with the vigorous training and drilling courtesy of physiological and psychological reasons. Some might argue that we also have female athletes who undergo intensive training daily and performing no worse than male, which is undeniably true. But sophisticated in gyms is totally different from what is required in the army. Being a soldier, one must have the endurance to see others being killed, or even take others’ lives personally, no matter he/she is willing or not. on the contrary, most women are sophisticated, at least not bad self-defenders while most women would balk when it comes to killing, which may contribute to the failure. In addition, due to the physiological and psychological reasons, women are easily disturbed or influenced by the sight of blood or the brutal scene during the war, which is so common and happen almost every single day. Therefore, a great amount of women are unable to handle the dangerous or even fatal circumstances calm and peace, and only very few of them are exceptions. Secondly, the psychological effects of a military career could be devastating. Combating experience is traumatic, a common sense acknowledged by ordinary people and professional experts. That’s why many veterans suffer from post-war syndrome--the violence and cruelty of war as well as the accompanying bad memories, which often harass them for the rest of life despite the efforts to put them aside. Even during the peaceful times, soldiers are trained indigently and arduously in case of war. Daily exposure to the violence and harshness, which is routine in the army, may cause damage to their mental and physical health, one women may not be qualified enough to burden. Finally, from my perspective, the most important reason against woman joining the army is that woman usually is the backbone of a family. According to many experts and social studies, women are born to bring up and nourish children as well as take care of the old compared to their counterpart. To this extend, if an equivalent number of women rush to the battle field as men do, then who are responsible for and dedicated to the everyday house work and perform it so perfectly, leaving the frontline soldiers no worries and concerns? This doesn’t mean that women are only confined to annoying daily chores as before, but give them a chance to do what they really good at, for women are family-savvy. In conclusion, due to tough demand, destroying post-war effects and responsibility to support the whole family, staying away from the war should be a preference for women.
