As is vividly depicted in the above picture, the parents are communicating online with their son who live upstairs, saying”……We look forward to seeing you again the next time your computer crashes.” Odd and funny though it sounds, we cannot help thinking how seriously the internet has impacted on the way people communicate. Even so, I don not think electronic communication can replace face-to- face contact. First of all, the electronic contact might sometimes be inefficient due to network failures or other interruptions. In additional, the information transferred via electronic communication is sometimes incomplete or ambiguous. By contrast, face-to -face communication can be complete and accurate because it combines language, eye contact and body language. What’s more, face-to- face contact is one of the most efficient and important ways people convey their feelings, which connect people with their families and friends. To sum up, electronic contact will never take the place of face-to- face communication and it is only a useful complement of face-to- face. After all, we all live in a real world , rather than a virtual one.
