Based on the previous studies and the present research, the researcher made a conclusion about the thesis. The researcher made an empirical study to the Grade eight students in the No.9 School of Huainan and found some problems about their use of nouns, which were the errors of number of nouns. Number errors of nouns were the basic knowledge in learning English, so it was important and difficult for junior English learners. There were five main errors in their compositions, especially the error of type D: countable nouns with no -s was committed most frequently, on the contrary, the error of type B: collection errors between uncountable nouns and determiner was seldom committed. Then the researcher searched out the reasons which were mainly caused by inter-lingual factor also called mother tongue interference. There were another two errors that were intra-lingual error and environmental error and these two were not the main causes. It was necessary for teachers to enhance their professional level so as to avoid misleading. As English language learners, Chinese students would like to structure in Chinese mind and translate word by word. For this reason, it’s crucial to understand the culture of English. During the process of translation, junior students committed errors and these errors became obstacles for further study. Therefore, in order to study English better, it’s necessary to get over the negative influence of native language.
