This chapter shows a poor black woman whose name was Celie, she was a classical (classic) role created by Walker. Celie, the main character, was oppressed by the male who has been deprived of the access to the politic, economy, society, and law, was restricted in the family and society chores. The greatest achievement of The Color Purple lies in the black woman transformation of the old ideology and traditional customs through Celie who had been chained by the old ideology and traditional customs. At the beginning of the story, the 14-year-old Celie was raped and tortured by her stepfather. And she was forced to marry Albert, a widower with four children, who does not care women and children at all. He compared women to animal which had no status and could be beaten at any time in any place. For him, Celie was only the tool to release his sexual desires and to feed his children.
