用户练习作文:

Economically, black women could not even normally ran a business and participate in the free competition with men. In black men’s mind, Celie was nothing but an subject to show the white superiority and power, and she was nobody but the poor ugly black woman, “She ugly. Don’t even look like she kin ton Nettie”( Alice Walker, 1982, 9), “ Nothing special here for nobody to love. No honey-colored hair, no cuteness. Nothing your and fresh.”(Alice Walker,1982,229) So it is a natural and common sense of men to exploit her. She was abused or beat without any reasons and traded as commodity to the man. However, unlike Celie, Sofia was completely different. She was strong-willed, independent, and dared to challenge. Sofia not only suffered a lot from her husband, but also was imprisoned because of her defiance of racism. She tried her everything in anyway that Celie did not. Harpo, Sofia’s husband, intended to keep her under male tyranny. Harpo wanted to dominate Sofia like what Albert does to Celie, but she fought against her husband again and again. Once Sofia goes up to Celie and complained: “All my life I had to fight, I had to fight my daddy. I had to fight my brothers. I had to fight my cousins and my uncles. A girl child ain’t safe in a family of men. But I never thought I’d have to tight in my own house, I loves Harpo. she say. God knows I do. But I’ll kill him dead before I lit him beat me.”(Alice Walker, 1982, 38) Sofia’s words expressed her hatred toward male domination in the society and also revealed her real fought for freedom and equality. Culturally, Celie was chained by the old ideology and traditional customs. Celie’s letters to God, “Dear God, I am fourteen years old. I-aa I have always been a good girl. Maybe you can give me a sign letting me know what is happening to me”(Alice Walker, 1982, 2), about the confused and abused she could not speak or write to anyone else. For Celie had no one to talk about her physical and spiritual pains but to write to the only person that could listen possibly, God, explaining her confused sense of guilt, shame and the pain of her life experience. From all the aspects above, Walker exposes black women carried the heaviest burden, and the racial, social and sexual oppression. They experienced physical or mental pain, they have yet to achieve full equality with men in the society. So the author has a sharp and thorough insight into black women’s suffering from racial and sexual oppression in her works.
