In A Farewell to Arms, snow is the opposite image of rain. It represents a kind of dream, a momentary peaceful life. The imagine of snow is similar with mountain, which stands for peaceful and nice life. Rain and snow both promote the plot of the novel and attract readers attention. In chapter 2, the author writes in this way: “I watched the snow falling, looking out of the window of the bawdy house, the house for officers, where I sat with a friend and two glasses drinking a bottle of Asti, and, looking out at the snow falling slowly and heavily, we know it was all over for that war.
