With the increasingly rapid development of the information technology and the massive wealth brought by the striking accumulation of commercial business,the media,especially the television,are playing enormously influential role in modern society.However,when the television brings out uncounted convenience to our citizenry,many experts,including anthropologists,sociologists,and principals of primary schools,argue that watching too many programs will have a relatively negative effect on children.At the same time,there are still equally many adults thinking that children should take advantage of watching TV as a preparation for the life in the future.Personally thinking,indeed,everything has its pros and cons,but benefits of watching TV could surpass its shortcomings. As for the benefits of watching TV,it is obvious that the television is indubitably the most expeditious and convenient method for people to receive news and useful information.First of all,children need to know how the world in which they live is operating,what is happening in this country,and what they will encounter in their future lives.Through watching TV pragrams which propagate events,such as economic crisis,political election,and legislate process,children can obtain some basic conceptions about this society,thus making them prepared for being qualified citizens. Moreover,watching TV is also of immense importance for children to learn curricular and even extra-curricular knowledge.For instance,for those students who always watched historical documentary as they were children,they will find the amazing fact that they can easily comprehend what is being taught in history lessons,and therefore they will be motivated by the sense of achievement.Even though watching some temporarily discursive content,perhaps someday they will find it extremely helpful. On the contrary,there are still some drawbacks which can criticized by those objectors of indulging children.As they said,it is clear that there are astronomical pragrams which are unbecoming for children,including crimes,family violence,sexual episodes,etc.,so that children should be forbidden to touch the pernicious content.Actually,those latent effects are so pervalent that children can almost have chances to see them as long as children open the visual machine.In addition,if children become so addicted with some attractive programs that watching TV starts to intrude the previous time of studying,some actions sould be imposed upon children. Conclusively,on the basis of above ratiocination,where there are benefits,there are disadvantages.Unquestionably,it is the television that nudges the human civilization to step into the information era,and gives opportunities to touch modern life.Overall,in order to make use of its positiveness,the government and parliament should take action and erect law to restrain what can be publicized in television programs,and make efforts with parents to cope with the eye-catching issue.
