Objective: There is no doubt that Ghost culture is related to the ghost, for example, Chinese funeral culture and western vampire culture.But the definitions of the word, ghost, are various, such as demon, spirit. As an important part of traditional culture, ghost culture is a kind of worldwide cultural phenomenon. Its formation not only has social and economic reasons, but also has the basis of epistemology, psychology. Once it is formed and affected by traditional culture background, it will present a different from all other area’s ghost culture. However, Chinese and western has a long history of ghost culture. Chinese and western ghost culture has cognition in common. Although they enjoy great similarities, but the difference still exist. And recently, the horror films with the leading role of ghost image, the "ghost" entertainment and ghost story has continuously emerged into the market, which aroused the interest of public and also catered to the tastes of the different class people in society. A study on differences between Chinese and western ghost culture is chosen as the study object, with the aim to study the difference between Chinese and western culture. It contributes to correctly learn and understand the feature of ghost culture for the readers and help people with a rational view to the Chinese and western ghost culture. What’s more, it is also favorable to the Chinese and western intercultural communication. Main contents: A study on differences between Chinese and western ghost culture is chosen as the title of this thesis. Firstly, it makes a general introduction about ghost. Secondly, it makes a brief explanation to the the legend of Chinese and western ghost.
