As a fair competition in sports, winning, of course, is not always the visitor. However, is it only when participants win something that the participating in sports is worthwhile. I can hardly agree on that for some reasons following behind. First, winning and prize from winning are not the only thing we get from sports competitions, and the idea that the victory is the one thing we should get from the competition is quite contrary to the sportsmanship. There are some other benefits we can from competitions which are equally worthwhile, Like friendship, for instance. I can still recall how I met a very close friend Gony, back in high school time, who was not even in the same school with me. We met on playground where we had our first basketball game, and back then none of our crew knew each other. After a fierce game, in which we have never find such comparable in the neighborhood before, we find more then fun of the game, in each defense we honed our skills, and try new moves try to breakthrough during offense, and during the whole game no one play dirty or cheat. We play a lot since then, and as time moving forward I find Gony is not only a funny guy but also a straight shooter just as he plays on the ground. There are some supreme players show their integrity in worldwide competitions as well. Back in 1936 Olympic Games, which during that time a grave racialism is among the Germany, where the game was hold. In Man's Long Jump, most expected man to win the game was Jesse Owens, an African American player, who had lost two jump under enormous pressure in preliminary, one jump cross the line and one far behind. Sports do a great job to one's health, and under the belief that competition is only to win something, is kind of difficult to do that job. We all have seen people who easily get furious when he lose a game or even just fall behind. My friend, John, is one of these, who was not bad at basketball in our class and that madde us in the same team in high school matches. When we were back in second grade, the school we attend started a new class which members were all young athletes ,and that made our way to reigning champion far more difficult then ever. Not only lost our finals, he lost his faith, during the forth quarter of the finals I can see the proud from his eyes faded away and replaced by anger. I hardly seen him play much since then, instead he find himself quite happy indulging in video games, which contain more shorter rewards, apparently. When I join the high school reunion this summer I can hardly believe my eye to find him changing from a fitness teenager into an overweight man. After all, sports is never about what you win from it or whether it's worthwhile, to me, it's a hobby, and what's more it's how we show our dignity and push us to the limit to become a better man. I'm not saying winning worth less, but to win the game in the proper way like Luz Long as I wrote before and some other great players I haven't mention, is the way we do sports.
