The issue of food security has sparked a heated topic worldwide. In Europe, horse meat has turned out to be substituted for so-called beef. Meanwhile, the inferior dairy product such as milk powder has aroused panic in our domestic market. This essay will analyze two potential reasons which lie behind the problem and propose the reasonable suggestion. Selfness of the businessmen is the root cause, leading to the high-occurrence incidents directly. Taking the profits into consideration, those dark-minded merchants tend to reach a minimum cost. Faced with a considerable number of profits and public health, meat suppliers choose the former one, thus breaking the boundaries of laws and regulations. Additionally, undeveloped supervision system is the other culprit which can be detrimental to public health. If our system was sophisticated, the scandals would be less likely to take place. Therefore, food safety can never be guaranteed without a strict food-testing regime. In response to the food safety scandal, severe punishment is supposed to be carried into effect so as to prohibit the meat suppliers from cutting corners even though they claim their profit margins have been squeezed. Our government and certain organizations should call for a relentless inquiry into such issue.
