Being the Only Child Obviously, widespread the only child policy, most of today's children are the only child, in their family, being the focus of attention. It seems to come naturally to them that they may get the undivided love, at the same time, being lonely. Being the only child, they may get the full love from their parents who consider them their most precious treasure and, in consequence, devote their every energy to the children’s growth. As an only child, it means that their parents have only them to love and not have to share it among other siblings. So, they would get more toys than normal, more money to spend than normal, and of course more love from their parents than normal. As for as a bad effect go, being the only child, some children may be lonely, while others may enjoy having the full attention of their parents. My father used to talk to me about his five siblings. He used to say that I was unfortunate that I had none. Frankly speaking, I do not have to share anything with any anybody. I own all my parents’ love. I can ask for anything I want. Lucky as I am, I now and then feel very lonely and I have nobody to complain about my loneliness. How I long for a quarrel with my brother and sisters. Anyhow, being an only child can be either good or bad, depending on how they perceive it and how they are brought up by their parents.
