With the rapid development of the society, people nowadays may prefer to live away from their parents and start their own family units. Several reasons have contributed to this phenomenon and it has exerted significant influence on society. The main reason why individuals opt to live separately from their parents is that they now have different lifestyle with their parents and they do not want their parents to limit on their ways of living. As the younger generation accept new thoughts and ideas quickly and the older generation may have some difficulties in keeping pave with the new stuff, it is inevitable that the generation gap exists between them. Young adults prefer more freedom and they also have distinct purchasing style from their parents. According to a joint effort from 5 leading universities in the US, among 1,000 interviewees, 80 % of them are unwilling to live with their parents when they get married for the reason that they believe they will have some conflicts with them due to different life habits. In terms of the effects of this issue, it is evident that since they live in different places in the form of small family units, they tend to have less time to stay and chat with each other. The relationships between two generations may become not as close as it used to be. In conclusion, people now prefer to live individually due to their different life habits with their parents and young adults are eager to lead a life with no restrictions. This issue may result in the isolation of relationships between generations.
