The passage lists three arguments supporting that E.Peary has ever reached North Pole in his expedition in 1909; however, the lecture contradicts them respectively. The first point that the professor uses to cast doubt on the reading is the accuracy of the declaration made by National Geographic Society. According to the listening, although the institution have made such a declaration-- Peary has reached the North Pole--as the author stated in the passage, the claim was not objective for sake that Peary was the committee’s closed friend and they have ever contributed money to his trip. Moreover, the investigation merely lasted 2 days to finish, even Peary himself have said that the whole process was not carefully. Therefore, there is no reason to believe Peary has ever gone to North Pole. Another point the professor uses to challenge the reading is the validity of the comparative trek of Avery. The two expeditions are different. For one thing, despite the same sled, the one of Avery has less weight than the one of Peary because Avery did not carry food with him. The food dropped along the way by airplane. For another, Avery counted on the favorable weather while Peary encountered with the unlucky one. Hence, the two expeditions had distinctive speeds towards their destination, contradicting the supporting argument in the passage that Peary reached the North Pole in only 37 days. Finally, the professor rebuts the statements in the reading that the North Pole position could be measured via Peary's photograph. According to her, without precise shadow, the technology is unable to give exact position. Peary used primitive camera along with the fuzzy and unfocused pictures. Moreover, the photographs were already faded and worn and the shadow were blurred and faded. As a result, the photographs are useless to provide any evidence that Peary has reached the North Pole.
