The issue of whether arts should be subsidized by the government has sparked off an intense debate. Some people claim that financially supporting arts is conductive to the public and the entire society. Personally, I agree with this opinion. Admittedly, a series of under-developed fields which are closely linked to people's well-being such as education, public transport system and healthcare system, should be attached a heavier weight by the government. However, an array of advantages resulting from the development and prosperity of arts cannot be ignored and denied. First and foremost, this attempt exerts a positive impact on the development and advancement of social economy. It is simply because the proliferation and dissemination of indigenous artworks such as folk music and ethnic paintings, to a large extent, stimulate foreigners interests and curiosities about locally traditional culture and customs. Thereby, vernacular tourism would be largely promoted and boosted as a vast number of exotic travelers come and have a visit. Consequently, the enormous profit produced and generated by the tourism can be applied and used in the construction and improvement of fundamental infrastructure, which contributes to enhancing the societal economy and elevating living standard and equality of people.Additionally, it is undeniable that due to the globalization, traditional culture and performances cannot compete with imported popular arts and are facing extinction. The demise of conventionally cultural heritage would be an immeasurable and irreversible loss. Therefore, providing financial assistance to the area of arts fulfills a profitable function in the realm of preserving and inheriting valuable cultural treasures. To conclude, I concede that allocating a certain amount of money to arts would tighten the government's budget especially in the period of economic recession and crisis. Nevertheless, I am still convinced that the public and the entire society will become the major beneficiaries from this move, regardless of cultural protection and economic advancement.
