It is undeniable that human beings have made huge progress in many areas. However, it should be pointed out that development is sometimes at the cost our living environment and natural resources. It is already a fact that human activities are having negative impact on plants and animals. Some people hold a pessimistic opinion, thinking that it is too late to take action, while others think we can still do something to reverse the trend. Is it too late to do anything about his problem? Definitely not! Just as a thousand mile journey starts from a single step, every little contribution of us will make a big difference if we persist. Everybody should think for others and behave themselves, and try to set a good example and influence the people around. It will be too late if every person has lost confidence in their ability to make a difference. It is believed by many people that effective measures can be taken to reduce the negative impact of human beings on plants and animals. First, the ruling government should formulate policies to guide the activities of human beings, encourage environmental protection deeds, and punish those against the laws. Second, some social groups related to environmental protection should play an active role. They are supposed to keep an eye on development and production activities that may have negative effect on plants and animals, such as railway construction. Last but not least, it is the public people who are vital for environmental protection. The public should monitor the activities of government, voice their opinions, and behave themselves in their daily life. To sum up, it is not too late to take actions to reduce the negative effect of human beings on plants and animals, but it will be too late if we remain indifferent to this issue. Only by joint efforts of the government and the people, can we realize the harmonious coexistence of huamn beings and the environment.
