We often get news from newspaper or internet that some older people came back to schools or universities in order to get a degree. These news always sound exiting, it seems that they represent our unlimited seeking for knowledge. So, as the statement that should one give up on getting a degree because he/she is a little older show up, my answer is NO, they should give up. Why one should not getting a degree while he is older? Because unlike learning specific knowledge, to getting a degree will spend lots of things. First, individual's time. If one is old enough that he/she has already built a family, spend these time in getting a degree means their children will get less parental care. Next, social resources. Either bachelor's degree or Phd costs various social resources, if a person is very old and just retiring from career, it will be of great waste for him/her to get a degree. One should not persevere to get a degree, but it would be hornorable to continue his/her knowledge or to learn a certain skill even he/she is old. A retired man to learn a new foreign language will be respectful. And there are plent of examples that a normal person starts his learning in painting or musical playing at a quite high age but finally getting famous. It always respective for a person to find ways to restart learning, to find some methods that would improve his/her career or living situation. But one should be alarmed that getting a degree will cost plenty of time and social resources, and if you are old, you should ensure your ability and responsibility.
