A young Chinese Canadian made a video to criticize some Chinese overseas students who discount Chinese in public and it’s got high click rate. In the video, he said some Chinese students think that Chinese is a stupid language to speak in public. This situation is not unique but just a typical of dozens I have heard. It is a hard truth to admit that we Chinese do not pay enough attention to our mother tongue. Chinese is so beautiful but it seems to suffer an eclipse when it compares with English. How? The study time of Chinese has been cut down because of learning English. Besides, if your English is awesome, it doesn’t matter your mandarin sounds awful even though you are a Chinese. Chinese is so amazing but people always have no patience to learn it well. As you can see, wrong spelling and wrong pronunciation is not hard to find in many cities. What’s more, many of us need to improve our composition skill. I think one of the most proud things to be a Chinese is that using excellent Chinese to express ourselves exactly and freely. China has changed rapidly recent years, however, paying due attention to Chinese is never too late to do. For students, we should promise high quality and enough quantity of Chinese study in school. For us, picking up the enthusiasm about Chinese is the top issue. Loving and embracing Chinese is not only about our identities but also about protecting our culture and our future. Only if we care, can Chinese shine.
