Cultural differences, in term of the respectation of the old and the youth,always vary in Western and Easten countries. While we can not deduct from these distinct social behaviors that senior people are more important than young ones, or vise versa. Both the old and youth have their enormous value for the development of the society. In some cultures, the old people are regarded as the entity of wisdom, because people value experience. Most Asian countries seem to sing high praise of their ancestors. Therefore, there are more social norms to encourage people to respect their precendants, such as parents or elder relatives, even strangers. For example, people build temples or take ceremenies to memerize the deseased ones, which is usually hosted by an elder person in the big family. Special honored seats are always saved for the respectful seniors. The offsprings are not supposed to address their older generation by the name. While the situation is quite different in Western countries. For instance, children can call their parents or grand parents directly by their names. But it does not mean the people are disrespectful to the old. They just honor the old in different ways, such as using their grand parent's name as middle name to memerize. However, Western people do emphersize the youth as the equal strenth of the whole society. There are completed laws to protect the children's right, that even parents can not punish or abuse them with physical penalty. On the other hand, Eastern people value the youth in another manner. For example, almost all Chinese parents would like to save for their children to marry, to buy house, to raise the grand children. They sacrifice their whole life to the welfare of the young generation. So, generally speaking, the Eastern culture values the old as the wisdom strenth and protects the young as a tender generation. While western culture respects the youth as the equal entity who is not inferior to the authorities and also honors the contribution from the old.
