Education Pays Education is not only a way to shaping students' mind, but also a way to teaching them knowledge and skills which can be made use of in jobs or careers in future. The higher education degree you achieve, the much knowledge you acquired. But how the pay you get is related to the degree you achieved? The above graph as the result of a survey carried by Bureau of Labor in 2011 gives us the answer. Two elements are brought up to measure the reward, unemployment rate and median weekly earnings. As for the unemployment rate, the average is 7.6 percent. The highest is the group not getting high school diploma, 14.1 percent, and the lowest is the group holding professional degree, 2.4 percent. There are only three groups of people whose unemployment rates are more than the average. None of them had education degree. As for median weekly earnings, the average is 797 dollars. The highest is the group with professional degree,1665 dollars, and the lowest is the group not even having high school diploma,451 dollars. There are only four groups' median weekly earnings more than the average. All of them get Bachelor's degree. Generally, we can say that education pays in higher earnings and lower unemployment rates. But this does not mean that: the higher education degree, the better the situation. The group with professional degree, as opposed to the group with doctoral degree, is in the better situation.
