Thanksgiving day is a traditional festival created by American people , it is a day on which family members gather together . At the beginning, there was not a fixed day to celebrate, it was decided respectively by the states of US which day to celebrate . Until 1863, after the independence of US, the Lincoln president declared the thanksgiving day as a national festival. In 1941,the American congress officially enact the Thursday of fourth week of the November as the “thanksgiving day” . The festival often last from Thursday to Monday. The original of the thanksgiving day happened in 1621. The pilgrims who were persecuted by the English king and the church and were very unsatisfied with the incomplete reform of the religion decided to keep away from the English church and go to this barren land which is on the other side of the Atlantic ,they hoped to live a life according to their own believes. In 1620, when the famous “ May flower” vessel which loaded 112 pilgrims who were unbearable about the prosecution of the English domestic religion arrived at the American. It was the winter of the 1620 , the native American met these refugees and sent them the life necessities , in addition the Indians taught them how to hunt , fish and plant pumpkin and corn. With the help of the Indians, the immigrates gorgeously harvested at last , and in that day, They decided to thank Indians’ help ,and invite them to celebrate the festival which was regulated by themselves to thank god, according to their religion tradition . The food eaten in thanksgiving day include turkey, pumpkin pie, corn etc. The supper is the most important feast in thanksgiving day. The food is very rich, and the turkey, pumpkin pie are necessary. Turkey is main dish, commonly the salad and seasoning are filled in the chest of the turkey which will be toasted, when it becomes brown , take it out from the stove and slice it to flakes and marinate them, sprinkle some salt on them , the taste is very delicious. Besides there are other traditional food include yum, cranberry sauce and homemade bread and variety of vegetables and fruits. After dinner, the activities include dance and other entertainment activities, and they often go out and have an excursion in country. People often go to church to pray according to custom. There are mask parade, drama performance and sports competition. And children often imitate Indians wearing some weird clothes and drawing on the face and taking on a mask to sing and trumpet in streets. The next day is a Friday , it is a shopping spree which is called black Friday . In this day , stores will discount their commodities, and people often buy a lot of things in this day.
