One century ago, there were predictable words that the human beings, as the smartest creature of this planet, would make significant progress in all fields of life. Presently, we are stepping to a brand new era, however, some are not quite certain that we human race has achieved and progressed in every area. Then what are the areas that are greatly improved? During the human race's searching for knowledge in these 100 years, the telecommunication technique has been obviously improved and revolutionized. Since the invention of telephone by the British scientist Bell, people used telephone for more than one hundred years, but it is in the recent decades that mobile phone, and, smart phone dramatically changed each individual's daily life. Until now, many youngsters admit that they can not live without smart phone even for a few seconds! As people use smart phones to pay for bills, to make new acquaintances, or even identify where themselves are so that they won't get lost. With the development of telecommunication and the Internet, many works and leisure activities can be resolved on the palm in seconds. Informative technology and automation industries facilitate the development of instant communication, which proves to be a tremendous success in the human history. Transportation is another huge revolutionary in the last century. It was not uncommon for people to travel for many days from one province to another by train ever before. It was recorded that, historically, in the war time, students and professors in Peking University and Thsing Hua University had to immigrate from the Beijing to Yunan province locating in the southwest of China. During the journey, they suffered a lot and experienced unfathomable difficulties for months partly due to the poor transportation , however, now, for college students, going home for holiday only takes them a couple of hours by high-speed train or by airplane. Hence, traveling more than 1000 miles in one day is not a dream anymore, and it is affordable by average people, too. Thirdly, the human race succeed in fields of medicine and health areas tremendously in the past 100 years. Some fatal diseases such as smallpox, pneumonia and etc. can be cured, consequently, people are capable of living a longer lifespan than ever before. The past century also witnessed the fantastic progress of space science. Human beings' landing on the moon, sending satellites into outer space, implementing more scientific research in the cosmos, which symbolize a great step for the human race's exploring of other planets. Above all, human beings really achieved a lot in many fields. However, personally, I think in areas such as arts, philosophy and environmental protection, works has to be done are not fulfilled very well. Taking philosophy for example, thousands of years ago, a lot of outstanding philosophers and thinkers such as Socrates, Plateau, Aristotle and Confusions, were all like bright stars shinning upper on the sky of human wisdom, whereas in the recent centuries, less great philosophers and thinkers are produced. There are sound reasons for this phenomenon. Modern people live in a hasty world, reading and thinking in depth in not encouraged anymore, instead, ways of reading like eating fast food are encouraged. Consequently, philosophical field has not been greatly improved. Another field that is necessary to be mentioned is environmental protection. Admittedly, we have created scientific miracles one after another, and accumulated a lot of fortune, but our environment worsen dramatically. Smog troubles urban citizens, rubbish disposal a headache for villagers, food safety are worried by housewives，all of which the human beings as a whole suffer. In conclusion, the progress on science leads upward toward the heavens, but always some areas unsatisfactory that bring us back to earth. The human race has done well in many areas but failed in some others listed above, nevertheless, the human race has a long way to go in order to make this planet a better world.
